Research: Oncologic safety of autologous fat grafting in primary breast reconstruction after mastectomy for cancer

"Autologous fat transfer (AFT) is widely used to improve results of breast reconstructive surgery, but its safety is controversial. Our objective was to evaluate the oncologic safety of AFT in a homogeneous population of patients who underwent a total mastectomy with immediate reconstruction for breast cancer."

"Breast reconstruction is offered to improve quality of life for women after mastectomy for breast cancer, but information regarding the long-term patient-reported outcomes of different reconstruction procedures is currently lacking. The Brighter study aimed to evaluate long-term patient-reported outcomes after immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) in a population-based cohort."
