The first day kicked off with a welcome and introduction from conference chair Jian Farhadi and the Scientific Programme Committee. This year, the London Breast Meeting has hit its tenth anniversary and while in recent years the opening keynote presentation has focused on reconstructive surgery, today's keynote looked at aesthetics.
Plastic surgeon, Patrick Malluci, kicked off the 2024 London Breast Meeting presentations with his talk - Evolution of Breast Rejuvenation: My Personal Journey. "I answered my phone and it was The Times. They said 'We understand you've discovered the formula for the perfect breast'." As the writer of the paper Concepts in Aesthetic Breast Dimensions: Analysis of the Ideal Breast, Malluci looked back at how he came up with his theory of 45:55 dimensions for the perfect breast, including the media frenzy that ensued. Malluci showed the lecture hall case studies of his patients of how these dimensions create the 'perfect breast'.
Up next, were talks on Breast Reshaping - Have we succeeded in achieving longevity? - featuring presentations from Dr Lazaro Cardenas, Adel Bark, Roy De Vita, Marc Pacifico, Klaus Ueberreiter, and Patricia McGuire.
Then after a lunch break, with the chance to explore the exhibitors at this year's meeting (including our sponsor Mentor) Patricia Maguire returned to the lecture hall stage as one of several surgeons deep diving into breast augmentation. She explored the subglandular breast augmentation technique and showcased case studies of why it's important to get it right. Next, was Paolo Montemurro on implant choice- shape, texture and cohesivity. He looked at the differences in round and anatomical implants and stressed the importance of finding the right fit for your client.
Rounding off the presentations - Tips and Tricks in Aesthetic Surgery, chaired by Marc Pacifico and Lazaro Cardenas, and a panel discussion Tips, Traps & Correction of unfavourable results, chaired by two of this year's Scientific Programme Committee, Maurice Nahabedian & Eric Santamaria.
Day one may be over already, but the insightful talks, as well as the festivities that come with the London Breast Meeting, especially as this year is its 10th anniversary, have only just begun.
